Βασίλι Καντίνσκι ο Γαλάζιος Καβαλάρης (Der Blaue Reiter)
Η αφηρημένη ζωγραφική του Καντίνσκι δεν έγινε θερμά δεκτή στη λεγόμενη Σχολή των Παρισίων και αρκέστηκε στην επανασύνδεσή του με παλιούς φίλους καλλιτέχνες, όπως ο Ντελωναί. Ο Καντίνσκι εκτιμούσε το έργο του Χουάν Μιρό, του Ζαν Αρπ και του Αλμπέρτο Μανιέλι. Την περίοδο αυτή, έζησε και εργάστηκε απομονωμένος, προχωρώντας σε νέες διαφοροποιήσεις της εικαστικής του έκφρασης αλλά και μία σύνθεση τωω παλαιότερων ιδεών του. Χρησιμοποίησε πρωτότυπους συνδυασμούς χρωμάτων, σπάνια βασισμένους σε βασικά χρώματα, ενώ διαφαίνεται επίσης η αλληλεπίδρασή του με τους Μιρό και Αρπ. Στα έργα του κυριαρχούν τα λεγόμενα «βιομορφικά» σχήματα, έχοντας ως πηγή έμπνευσης εγκυκλοπαίδειες και εργασίες βιολογίας, όπως τα έργα του Ερνστ Χέκελ (Kunstformen der Natur) ή του Καρλ Μπλόσφελντ (Unformen der Natur).
Το 1939, το μουσείο Jeu De Paume, αγόρασε το έργο του Σύνθεση ΙΧ, ενώ από την άλλη μεριά των συνόρων, πολλά έργα του καταστράφηκαν από το ναζιστικό καθεστώς της Γερμανίας. Στις 13 Δεκεμβρίου 1944, πέθανε από αρτηριοσκλήρωση σε ηλικία 78 ετών και η ταφή του τελέστηκε στο Νεϊγί-συρ-Σεν. Συνέχεια
