Λάϊκα ..ένα σκυλί κοιτάζει τα άστρα !

Το σύντομο ταξίδι της Λάικα, την έκανε ένα από τα πιο διάσημα σκυλιά του κόσμου. Απεικονίστηκε σε γραμματόσημα σε πολλές χώρες, και μάρκες από τσιγάρα και σοκολάτες είχαν το όνομά της. Τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες, έχει γίνει και όνομα συγκροτημάτων και τραγουδιών. Τον Νοέμβριο του 1997, σαράντα χρόνια μετά την πτήση της Λάικα, ένα μνημείο πεσόντων αστροναυτών ανεγέρθηκε στην Αστρόπολη, το κέντρο εκπαίδευσης των Σοβιετικών αστροναυτών κοντά στην Μόσχα. Σε μία γωνιά του μνημείου υπάρχει και η εικόνα της Λάικα.

Το τηλεσκόπιο Αρίσταρχος είναι ένα από τα καλύτερα ευρωπαϊκά τηλεσκόπια νέας τεχνολογίας με μεγάλη ακρίβεια σκόπευσης και παρακολούθησης των ουράνιων αντικειμένων και δυνατότητα ταυτόχρονης προσαρμογής πολλών ερευνητικών οργάνων, όπως ψηφιακές κάμερες και φασματογράφους. Ο Αρίσταρχος κατασκευάστηκε από τη διεθνούς φήμης γερμανική εταιρεία οπτικών οργάνων Zeiss, ενώ έχει διάμετρο κατόπτρου 2,3 μέτρα. Η απόσταση παρατήρησής του, είναι περίπου το μέσο του Σύμπαντος.
Το νέο τηλεσκόπιο βρίσκεται στον Χελμό, στην κορυφή του βουνού, στην τοποθεσία Nεραϊδόραχη και σε υψόμετρο 2.340 μέτρων. Τα κριτήρια επιλογής της τοποθεσίας ήταν το υψόμετρο, η καθαρότητα και η διαφάνεια της ατμόσφαιρας καθώς και η δυνατότητα εύκολης πρόσβασης στην περιοχή.

This Mercury flight was designed to enter space, but not to achieve orbit. Ten years later, at age 47 and the oldest astronaut in the program, Shepard commanded the Apollo 14 mission, piloting the lander to the most accurate landing of the Apollo missions.
He became the fifth and oldest person to walk on the Moon, and the only astronaut of the Mercury Seven to walk on the Moon. During the mission, he hit two golf balls on the lunar surface.

NanoRacks-Λ-Sat Hellenic Satellite (NanoRacks-Λ-Sat) is the first space-based experiment to study how the harsh radiation and vacuum of space affects graphene, a single-layer sheet of carbon atoms important in nanotechnology applications. The satellite, the first to be designed and built by Greek scientists, also demonstrates a communications platform that monitors Greek merchant ships and their crews in real-time, aiming to improve maritime security and thwart piracy.
